[Spm] Force Pulling

I have a question about force pulling.  I am trying to understand the
adhesion force between and gold probe and gold surface.  I was getting
inconsistent results and I thought it was due to the probe dulling or
the gold coating wearing away so I had a 500nm Au particle placed on a
probe to hopefully eliminate the inconsistent data and after measuring
about 12 spots I started to see a huge jump in the force data.  I
thought I did something to my particle so I stuck the probe in SEM and
saw that the probe was fine.  Any ideas what might be happening here?
Why do I get decent force numbers the first few times and then a set of
really large numbers?  Thanks for the input and help ,
