[Spm] Force Volume Imaging Format

Dear all,

I'm having some problems reading the force-volume imaging format
(Version 5.12r4, since oddly, FV not available in Version 6!!).
Previously,  I have been able to access the text header to the file
(data in binary, although accessible with header info).
However, sometimes the header appears to be 'scrambled' with the file
starting:   \&4
If anybody has any suggestions or has had similar problems, I would be
very grateful to hear.
