[Spm] Finding the same area for re-scanning

Dear SPM'ers,

I am trying to locate and scan(friction mode/tapping mode) of the same
area( not more than 30by30micron) located usually at the center of a
2mm by 2mm of my sample(gold coated glass slide) before and after I
modify the surface.

Our system is a Bioscope (inverted microscope) with motorized xy stage
(joystick type), Nanoscope111a controller and the version of the
software DI software is 5.12r3. We donot have the "Stage" menu option
that is available to the Dimension series.

The problem I am facing is two fold:

1. My substrate is opaque and since we are using the inverted
microscope, it is not possible to have a optical view of the surface
(so it is not possible to have a marker, like a scribed line on the
surface to use as a reference for subsequent motion)
2. Although we have a motorized stage, the controls donot allow the
fine motion needed for me to position the sample in the scale I am
looking for. Also I have no information regarding the coordinates (X,
Y) or motion as initiated by the stage.

I was wondering whether there is a way of using Nanoscript and the
X-Yoffset along with the instruments I have to acheive this?? The
manual(Command Reference) has little or no information about Nanoscript.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Regards,
Tania
