Dear Helge,
    For flat surfaces, we use either SDS treatment followed by UV-ozone 
treatment or SDS treatment followed by treatment in a plasma cleaner. I 
myself have never investigated the effect of cleaning tips in the 
UV-ozone or a plasma cleaner, but for imaging proteins I refer you to 
the following publication where a procedure for preventing/minimizing 
tip contamination was used: Richter et al. Biophys. J. 85, 2003, page 3035.
